Practical Demo & Talk ~  Raku firings with Andy Mason

‘Raku party’ is an event involving creating your own Raku pottery featuring dramatic ‘live’ kiln firings.

Also, alongside the Raku firings Andy will give a practical making demonstration and talk about the motivations and ideas behind his latest work created during his Artist Access programme at University of Derby http://aa2a.biz/pg/profile/andrewm

Come and join the party and glaze your own individual Raku piece producing subtle or vibrant colour and metallic effects – a fascinating insight into the art and alchemy of ceramics using this simple but effective technique.

Fundraising event for the 2011 Craft & Design graduates to take their work to the important New Designers Exhibition in London

Melton Road Market – 1st Saturday of every month – starts 5th February

Melton Rd and its adjoining streets are filled with interesting independent shops which sell a wide variety of locally sourced produce so we felt that this needed to be promoted and celebrated.

On the first Saturday in every month you  can expect your local independent shops to be working harder than ever to promote local products and suppliers as well as showing what they do best.

The first Melton Road Market will boast:

  • music by Rubab player Sami Haque and his group in front of Longley’s in the afternoon and Soprano singer Chris Shaw in the morning. Both Chris Shaw and Julian the Juggler will be in front of Henry and Isobel.
  • Catherine Mears will have her glass ornaments stall either in front of Celebrations or inside (depending on the weather).
  • Martha Cann will do some face painting during the day for Taste and Daisy Daisy.
  • Kiram of Clumber Road off-licence with make some authentic indian food; vegetable and chicken curry, rice and batura.
  • There will also be 2 bread baking demonstration sessions of one hour in In-toto’s the kitchen shop

For your information the local products that you can currently find in the shops are:  local meat, fish, vegetables, honey, eggs, chutneys, ales, beers, cordials, cakes,  cheeses and bread. For more up to date information see:www.meltonrdshops.co.uk

I hope you enjoy exploring your Melton Road (and adjacent roads) shops and experience the great community atmosphere.
