Making for Raku

Make your own Pots for Raku Firing with Fran Tristram
These one-day workshops are  programmed to complement our Raku Firing days and are a great opportunity to learn new skills and to make a number of simple but unique pots specially with Raku firing in mind.

DATES: choose either Saturday 23 or Sunday 24 March 2019

Times: 10am – 4pm Please bring a packed lunch or eat at one of Lady Bay’s excellent eateries: Poppy & PintBread & Butterflies, Holy Calzone

PRICE: one-day workshop £70 per person

BOOKINGPlease CONTACT US if you have any further questions or to reserve your place.

Activity:  Using special ‘open bodied’ clay suitable for raku firing, learn to make your own simple hand built pots for one of our raku firing days.

All our workshops are focussed on learning in a relaxed and friendly environment and are suitable for both beginners and those who have prior experience in pottery making. We always aim to support each students’ individual progress at their own pace and to ensure that an enjoyable and productive time is had by all.

Techniques:  Processes that you will learn will include slab-rolling, joining, pinching, slab-coiling, modelling.  Fran Tristram will take you step-by-step through each process so you can be sure to have several finished pieces by the end of your day.

Morning: Focussing on slab-building and altering
Afternoon: Introducing pinch-pot method with slab-coil and modelled additions.

And finally:  NB the quoted price includes a single biscuit firing which will take place at least one week after the event and often later, depending on when there are enough pots ready to fill the kiln.

We expect that most participants will also be attending one of our Raku Firing days with Andy Mason in which case you will be able to leave your pots in the workshop to be biscuit fired in readiness for you to decorate and fire then.

Please note, those who wish to attend these making days without booking a place on the raku days are also welcome of course and will be able to either collect their unglazed pots after biscuit firing or to book time with Fran if they wish to glaze their pots (using our standard low fire house glazes) at a later date in a private session.

Please be aware that uncollected pots will not be held for longer than 3 months after firing as we do not have space for long term storage.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or to reserve your place.

All our advertised workshops take place here at our Seymour Road Studios in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
